Jorge Andrés Bayas Lituma, a native of Quito, Ecuador, holds a PhD in Spanish Language and Literature from the University of Maryland, College Park. His research focuses on contemporary historical and documentary fiction in Latin America and its relationship to the literary market, particularly in Mexico. His current research projects include articles on Cristina Rivera Garza and Álvaro Enrigue, as well as a monograph based on his dissertation. Outside of his academic work, he enjoys reading modernist and contemporary fiction and contemporary nonfiction, writing, listening to music, spending time with friends and family, going to the gym, and watching classic films.
