Minor in Italian Language & Literature and Culture

The Italian minor exposes students to Italian culture through study of language, literature and film traditions while developing students’ critical thinking, writing skills and awareness of intercultural exchange. The highly flexible curriculum requires two core classes and four electives chosen from options including The Italian American Experience, Contemporary Italian Cinema, Il Decamerone di Boccaccio and more.

Italian study complements a number of academic and professional pursuits, from history, art history and English to political science, international relations and business.

 


Course Requirements

Minor in Italian Language and Literature

The following requirements must be fulfilled: 18 credits, including 6 credits in required courses and 12 credits in elective courses.

Required
ITAL 2005Language, Culture, and Society I
ITAL 2006Language, Culture, and Society II
Students who place out of ITAL 2005 and/or ITAL 2006 must take the equivalent number of credits in additional elective courses conducted in Italian.
Electives
Students take at least 12 credits in Italian (ITAL) courses numbered 2500 or above. At least 9 of those 12 credits must be taken in courses conducted in Italian. At least 6 of the 9 credits in courses conducted in Italian must be taken at GW.
